Imitation pearls Shell Pearl was invented in the twentieth century in America as an analogue of South Sea pearls. Shell Pearl has an interesting manufacturing technique based on the use of giant sea shells of tridacnids. Tridacnas can reach two meters in length, which is probably why they became the basis for the American way of imitation pearls.
With special stone cutters, the shell is crushed into small pieces, which are polished until they acquire a perfectly even shape and surface. The result is balls of pressed mother-of-pearl. Several layers of pearl essence are applied to the finished bead, and then covered with a thick solution of varnish or enamel, which give the pearl an opalescent effect and shine. This technology brings Shell Pearl closer to natural pearls, because practically nothing artificial is used in its production, all ingredients are made on the basis of natural mother-of-pearl.
Shell Pearl looks very nice. Pearls have a perfectly flat drop-shaped, round or spherical surface. The main size is from 10 to 16 mm. However, now, in order to bring the imitation even closer to natural pearls, baroque Shell Pearl is produced in an irregular shape.
Shell Pearl is as heavy as natural pearls, this must be taken into account in the manufacture of jewelry, since other pearl imitations are lighter. The multi-layer lacquer coating guarantees the long life of Shell Pearl and the durability of color and luster. It is also well resistant to cosmetics, perfume and other chemical influences, and is not as capricious to wear as natural pearls. The color scheme is extremely diverse - from pastel and classic tones to bright neon shades that are popular today.
Due to the expensive manufacture, the price of imitation pearls Shell Pearl is not much lower than the famous "Majorica", but nevertheless, it is quite affordable for every woman.
